Washington, D.C. — After the announcement of Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) replacement plan to regulate pollution from coal-fired power plants, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president for Energy and Environment Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This plan will give a lifeline to dirty coal plants unable to compete with cleaner alternatives. It fails to take meaningful action to fight climate change and would actually increase emissions across the country. This proposal shows that Scott Pruitt’s culture of corruption still runs deep through the EPA. It was designed by Pruitt in soundproofed rooms and shows that his hand-picked replacement, Andrew Wheeler, remains in the pocket of the coal industry. As this country faces powerful hurricanes and devastating wildfires, it is critical that we take real climate action that protects public health, not polluter profits.
