Washington, D.C. — Today, four cities are filing a new lawsuit in federal court challenging that President Donald Trump’s continued sabotage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) makes clear that he is failing to faithfully execute the law. Maura Calsyn, managing director of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement in response to the lawsuit:
No president can deliberately work to destroy a law that Congress passed and has repeatedly rejected repealing. From his first day in office, President Trump’s unyielding and flagrant efforts to destroy the ACA have increased costs, stunted enrollment, and jeopardized consumer protections the American people overwhelmingly support. Throughout the Trump administration, the courts have played a critical role in intervening when the administration acts unlawfully. Given Congress’ refusal to do its job to hold the president accountable for implementing the ACA, this lawsuit represents the latest example of litigation needed to protect the American people.
