STATEMENT: CAP’s Neera Tanden Calls Senate Democratic Infrastructure Plan ‘Exactly the Type of Agenda Our Country Needs’

Washington, D.C. — Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement on the infrastructure plan released today by Senate Democrats:

The Senate Democratic infrastructure plan represents exactly the type of agenda our country needs. It’s comprehensive: It covers transportation, broadband, schools, public lands, Veterans Affairs facilities, housing, water, and energy. It’s a win for workers: It will create jobs and protect good wages and high labor standards. It restores solvency of the Highway Trust Fund, which is the single-most important source of direct funding for infrastructure projects. It keeps intact critical protections for the air we breathe and the water we drink. And it does all this by repealing some of Trump’s most egregious and unnecessary tax giveaways to the wealthy and corporations.

By contrast, President Donald Trump’s so-called infrastructure proposal is a naked giveaway to wealthy Wall Street investors and corporate polluters. When combined with the most recent White House budget, his plan actually cuts federal investment in infrastructure—and is little more than a failure to live up to Trump’s own lofty campaign promises.
