Washington, D.C. — Following passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of a fiscal year 2018 budget, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress released the following statement:
With the passage of the House budget, millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations scored a big victory at the expense of working families. Congress is now one step closer to passing huge tax cuts for the wealthy, and the Senate is set to follow suit by moving a budget with enormous, deficit-financed tax cuts. Make no mistake: Medicaid, Medicare, public education, our roads and bridges, and clean air and water are on the chopping block—all so that wealthy party donors can pocket even more cash. While congressional Republicans use falsehoods and fake math to justify massive tax cuts for the wealthy, here’s the reality: This foolish fiscal ploy will leave middle- and working-class families holding the bag—and footing the bill.
