STATEMENT: CAP’s Carmel Martin Applauds Senate Confirmation of John B. King Jr. as U.S. Secretary of Education

Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Senate approved the nomination of John B. King Jr. to serve as the next U.S. secretary of education. Carmel Martin, Executive Vice President for Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:

Today, the Senate confirmed a deserving Dr. John King to be the next U.S. secretary of education. King’s experience in the classroom and as an educational leader at the local, state, and federal levels will serve him well in his new role. His long-standing commitment to delivering quality education to all students—especially those most at risk—will be critical to moving forward the department’s mission and implementing the new Every Student Succeeds Act. Congratulations to Secretary King.
