King, Jr. to serve as the U.S. secretary of education. King has been serving as acting secretary since former Secretary Arne Duncan’s departure at the end of 2015:
As acting deputy secretary and now as acting secretary at the Department of Education, John King has shown himself to be an exceptional leader—and his commitment to providing a quality education to all students is evident. Despite sitting on other Cabinet and high-level nominations for months, Senate Republicans urged President Barack Obama to formally nominate John King to fill the role of education secretary. Now that the administration has indicated that it will do so, Senate Republicans owe King—and schools, students, and educators—a swift confirmation.
