STATEMENT: CAP Energy Vice President Applauds Senate Legislation Aimed at Cutting Carbon Emissions

Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress Vice President for Energy Policy Greg Dotson issued the following statement on the introduction of new Senate legislation aimed at dramatically reducing carbon pollution in the United States and incentivizing the transition to cleaner, renewable energy technology.

Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Harry Reid (D-NV), and Ron Wyden (D-OR) deserve tremendous credit for bringing so many of their colleagues together on legislation that points the way to a clean energy future. The carbon reduction targets in the recently introduced legislation will set clear and realistic goals for breaking our reliance on fossil fuels. Under this plan, Americans will enjoy cleaner air, lower energy bills, and a brighter future. It is an important plan at a critical time.
