STATEMENT: CAP’s Carol M. Browner on Restriction of Oil Drilling in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress Distinguished Senior Fellow Carol M. Browner issued the following statement today after President Barack Obama called for the restriction of oil drilling in millions of acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or ANWR:

This is an important step to preserve one of our nation’s most beautiful areas. The administration has worked for more than four years in a transparent way to develop this conservation plan for the Arctic wildlife refuge. What is important now is for Congress and the administration to get beyond the politics of ANWR and focus on doing what is right to preserve this vital public resource for generations to come.
