STATEMENT: CAP’s Peter Swire on the Administration’s Privacy Report

Washington, D.C. – Today Center for American Progress Senior Fellow Peter Swire released the following statement regarding the Obama administration’s “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights,” a blueprint unveiled today to improve consumers’ privacy protections online:

At a moment when the European Union has just announced a revision for its own privacy laws, the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights is the U.S. approach for effective protection for consumer privacy. The new stakeholder process provides a vital mechanism for updating privacy protections in the face of new technology. The white paper sets forth a distinctly American way to promote a global Internet with both innovation and privacy.
