Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress announced today that Nina Palmer is joining the organization’s National Security and International Policy team as a senior fellow. Palmer will be part of CAP’s Asia team and lead the team’s work on U.S.-China policy.
Palmer joins CAP from the Albright Stonebridge Group, a global business strategy firm. She previously served as the attaché for the U.S. Department of Energy in Beijing and, before that, as the senior East Asia analyst in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Security Division, where she produced analysis on U.S.-China climate negotiations, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and U.S. security policy in Asia.
“Nina brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team,” said Katrina Mulligan, acting vice president of National Security and International Policy at CAP. “Her deep knowledge of China and associated issues in energy, trade, and politics will ensure that CAP continues to bring innovative ideas to a global audience.”
Palmer also served as an analyst with the Department of the Navy from 2010-2015 covering Naval strategy and doctrine and maritime disputes in the South China Sea.
Palmer received her M.A. in Asian studies from Georgetown University, and a B.A. in East Asian studies from Smith College. She also holds a graduate certificate in Chinese studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and Nanjing University. She speaks Mandarin.
