STATEMENT: CAP’s John Podesta Praises Nomination of Winnie Stachelberg as Assistant Secretary, Department of the Interior

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Biden administration announced the nomination of Winnie Stachelberg for assistant secretary for policy, management, and budget at the U.S. Department of the Interior. In response, John Podesta, founder of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:

Winnie Stachelberg has been a courageous leader, a visionary strategist, and a treasured colleague for nearly three decades on a wide range of progressive issues, both as executive vice president for External Affairs at CAP and during her tenure at the Human Rights Campaign. She is a wise choice to help the Interior Department oversee the administration’s ambitious conservation goals while tackling the challenges of climate change and environmental justice. Her nomination puts the protection of America’s natural and cultural resources in good hands.
