Washington, D.C. — As Congress prepares to debate H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, a new Center for American Progress analysis provides estimates on the local impact of Dreamers and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients in Phoenix—immigrants who would be put on a pathway to citizenship under H.R. 6.
The analysis provides data on the demographic ties and economic contributions of Dreamers, TPS- and DED-eligible immigrants for 110 cities and 317 counties across the county.
In Phoenix, there are 31,000 immigrants eligible for protection under the Dream and Promise Act. They live with 74,000 family members and own 2,700 homes. Each year, their households pay $132.7 million in federal taxes and $83.1 million in state and local taxes.
On March 12, Reps. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), and Yvette Clarke (D-NY), alongside House Democratic leadership, introduced H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act. H.R. 6 provides permanent status and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, and DED recipients who have had their lives thrown into limbo by the actions of the Trump administration.
“H.R. 6 would bring stability not just to eligible Phoenix residents but to their families as well,” said Nicole Prchal Svajlenka, senior policy analyst of Immigration Policy at CAP and author of the column. “This analysis underscores that Dreamers and TPS and DED holders are part of the social fabric in Phoenix—raising families, paying taxes, and spending money at Phoenix businesses.”
