Washington, D.C. — The Center for American announced today that Maggie M. Siddiqi is joining the organization as director of the Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative, where she will lead the team in advancing a progressive vision of faith and religious liberty and engaging a network of faith leaders.
Siddiqi comes to CAP from the El-Hibri Foundation, where she served as director of communications and strategic initiatives. She oversaw the foundation’s communications and public affairs and assisted with strategic planning, relationship management, and leadership convenings.
“Now more than ever, Maggie’s voice is needed to help define the fundamental values that should guide our country,” said Winnie Stachelberg, CAP’s executive vice president for External Affairs. “She can articulate a moral vision for the nation on issues from religious liberty and human rights to criminal justice reform, immigration, and social and economic equality.”
Siddiqi previously served as program director for the American Muslim Health Professionals and founded its EnabledMuslim initiative, an online network providing spiritual and community support for Muslims living with disabilities, as well as their loved ones. She also served as program coordinator at the Islamic Society of North America’s Office for Interfaith and Community Alliances in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw implementation of interfaith dialogue and community outreach programs and conducted outreach to government officials and stakeholders on issues of social justice.
Siddiqi is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in religion. She received a master’s in Islam and Christian-Muslim relations and a graduate certificate in Islamic chaplaincy from Hartford Seminary.
Siddiqi received her chaplaincy field training in clinical pastoral education from Medstar Georgetown University Hospital and an executive certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy. She was a fellow of the American Muslim Civic Leadership Institute, a program of the University of Southern California’s Center for Religion and Civic Culture.
