Washington, D.C. — The Center for American announced today that Miriam Goldstein is joining the organization’s Energy and Environment Policy team as director of ocean policy. At CAP, Goldstein will focus on supporting science-based policies that protect and restore ocean health for the benefit of America’s economy, environment, and coastal communities.
Goldstein is a marine biologist who has experience working for congressional lawmakers at the intersection of science, policy, and public interest. She spent the past two years as legislative director for Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), where she drafted and negotiated legislation, including a measure that changed the rules for how accusations of sexual harassment against members of Congress are handled.

Prior to her work for Rep. Speier, Goldstein was a legislative fellow for the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee minority staff and the office of Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA)—dealing with issues including climate, fisheries, and oceans.
Goldstein received a Ph.D. in biological oceanography and a master’s degree in marine biology from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She has an undergraduate degree from Brown University.
