Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress announced today that Jacob Leibenluft is joining the Center as executive vice president for policy, where he will oversee all of the organization’s policy development. Leibenluft has had a distinguished career in domestic and economic policy and served for nearly eight years in the Obama administration. He joins CAP from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, where he has been a senior advisor on tax, health care, and the federal budget.
“We are thrilled to have Jacob join the Center for American Progress and that he’ll lead our policy work with his exceptional policy expertise and vision,” said Neera Tanden, president and CEO of CAP. “In the Obama administration, Jacob was a central part of the president’s economic team and at CAP, he will help our teams develop bold ideas to address the country’s most pressing problems in 2018 and beyond. His leadership will be critical as we form an alternative agenda to the current administration.”
In the Obama administration, Leibenluft was deputy assistant to the president for Economic Policy and served in various roles on President Obama’s National Economic Council in the White House, most recently as deputy director. He focused on issues including tax policy, the budget, job training, and consumer protection and was responsible for coordinating policy development across a broad range of the administration’s priorities during President Obama’s second term. He also served as the economic policy director on President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign and a senior policy adviser for Hillary for America during the 2016 general election.
Leibenluft is a graduate of Yale University and the recipient of a Truman Scholarship and a Henry Luce Scholarship.
