RELEASE: CAP Welcomes Tom K. Wong as Senior Fellow for Immigration Policy

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress announced that Tom K. Wong will join CAP as a new senior fellow for Immigration Policy. As a senior fellow, Wong will build upon his strong track record of collaborating with the organization’s Immigration Policy team on cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative research.

“Tom is a star in the immigration policy world and we are delighted to welcome him to our team,” said Winnie Stachelberg, executive vice president of External Affairs at CAP. “Tom’s keen analytical mind and unparalleled work ethic will be valuable additions to our team as we work to advance opportunities for vulnerable immigrant communities and all Americans during these challenging times.”

Wong will continue to work as an associate professor of political science and director of the International Migration Studies minor program at the University of California San Diego. In these roles, Wong has published widely cited research focusing on the politics of immigration, citizenship, and migrant “illegality.”

Wong also served as an adviser to the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders under the Obama administration. Wong is on the leadership committee of the California Immigrant Policy Center and the board of the New American Leaders Project. Wong also consults on campaigns and elections, specializing in mobilizing low-propensity voters of color and immigrant communities.
