RELEASE: Center for American Progress and Funny or Die Team Up to Bring Humor to the Common Core Debate

Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress and comedy website Funny or Die have teamed up to bring humor and levity to the debate over the Common Core State Standards with a new video starring Brian Huskey, Kate Flannery, and Jillian Rose Reed.

“Education is so often a serious business, but we all need a laugh once in a while—especially after hearing the out-there statements from the campaign trail about the Common Core,” said Will Ragland, Campaign Director for Education Policy at the Center for American Progress. “The goals of the Common Core—to prepare every student for college and career—are popular with Americans, but misinformation is everywhere. Funny or Die knows how to bring humor to virtually any situation, and CAP is proud to partner with it to help set the record straight on the Common Core.”

Onion News Network correspondent and “Childrens Hospital” actor Huskey and “The Office” actress Flannery star as parents preparing to send their young daughter to her first day of kindergarten. As parents, Huskey and Flannery have many misconceptions about what the Common Core standards really entail, but their older daughter—played by MTV “Awkward” actress Jillian Rose Reed—shows up to help set the record straight before she heads off to her first day of college.
