Washington, D.C. — Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael Fuchs has rejoined the Center for American Progress as a Senior Fellow. Fuchs, who served in various roles at the U.S. Department of State from 2009 until 2016—including as an advisor to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—will focus on U.S. foreign policy priorities and policies in the Asia-Pacific region, American diplomacy, and national security strategy.
“Michael Fuchs brings to CAP a wealth of knowledge of Asian foreign policy issues,” said CAP Vice President for National Security and International Policy Vikram Singh. “He also deeply understands overall U.S. foreign policy, the role America can play in the world, and American politics. Having Michael back at CAP after a long and successful tenure in the U.S. State Department will greatly benefit CAP’s work on issues related to Asia and beyond.”
Prior to joining the U.S. State Department, Fuchs served as deputy national security director for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign where he helped with policy, outreach, and communications on foreign policy and defense issues. Fuchs previously worked at CAP on foreign policy, as well as energy and environment issues, and co-directed a project on democracy and foreign policy for The Century Foundation.
