RELEASE: Michael Sozan Named CAP’s Vice President of Government Affairs

Washington D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress announced that Michael Sozan has stepped into the role of Vice President of Government Affairs. Sozan joins American Progress after two decades of work in the federal government and private sector. Most recently, Sozan spent the past six years as chief of staff to Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) where he managed the senator’s policy, political, communications, and administrative teams.

“I am thrilled that Michael has joined CAP and know he will be an asset to ensure that our policies improve the lives of all Americans and reach policymakers in Washington and across the country,” said CAP President Neera Tanden. “Michael will be instrumental in continuing to move CAP’s work forward in the policy debate as we tackle some of our country’s toughest challenges.”

Among his accomplishments while working for Sen. Udall, Sozan was the principal point person on the senator’s groundbreaking work that helped repeal the military’s outmoded Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. Prior to his work with Sen. Udall, Sozan served as the legislative director for Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) and was also previously Commerce Committee counsel to Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL).
