Washington, D.C. – The Center for American Progress and the Enough Project are proud to announce that former U.S. Department of State Senior Advisor Mary Beth Goodman has joined the organization as a Senior Fellow for the National Security team and a Senior Advisor to the Enough Project. Goodman previously served in key posts in the State Department and the National Security Council, where she worked on a broad range of international economic and development issues, including anti-corruption, asset recovery, and illicit finances from Ukraine to the Middle East to sub-Saharan Africa.
“Mary Beth’s exemplary career and ability to identify and implement economic strategies to advance U.S. diplomatic goals makes her an incredible resource for CAP’s National Security team and the Enough Project’s efforts to address the economic drivers of conflict in Africa,” said John Prendergast, Founding Director of the Enough Project. “She has served in crucial, high-pressure positions in both the White House and the State Department, as well as important posts overseas. We are excited to have her join CAP and the Enough Project and look forward to tapping her considerable experience and expertise as we seek to find answers to some of the world’s most difficult international issues.”
Goodman will work with the National Security team as a Senior Fellow where she will lead CAP’s research on illicit finance, sanctions, corruption and development with a focus on Africa and South Asia. She will provide expertise, develop partnerships, and support the work of the National Security team by developing approaches to countering illicit activity using financial and nonmilitary tools.
As a Senior Advisor to the Enough Project, Goodman will advise the development of project goals around economic conflict drivers and peace incentives in the on-going wars that are the focus of the Enough Project. She will also play a major role in the satellite sentinel project, an Enough Project initiative that is expanding its focus to forensic investigations of the financial drivers of mass atrocities.
