Washington, D.C. –The Center for American Progress announced today that it will name former economic adviser to President Barack Obama and professor at the University of Chicago, Austan Goolsbee, a Distinguished Senior Fellow. Goolsbee will work with CAP’s economic policy team and will focus on developing new ideas to address some of the greatest economic challenges in the United States. Using his rich background and varied experience, he will advise CAP’s economic policy team as it works to ensure that economic growth and prosperity are shared broadly by all Americans.
“We are excited to welcome Austan Goolsbee as a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress,” said Neera Tanden, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress. “As one of the nation’s most distinguished economic thought leaders, Austan’s extensive knowledge of the drivers of broad-based economic growth and about the role of policy on the economy will be an instrumental contribution to CAP’s continued efforts to develop policies that drive economic growth by strengthening our nation’s middle class.”
Goolsbee, the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, previously served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and a member of the Cabinet. Prior to joining the Obama administration, Goolsbee was a member of the Panel of Economic Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a research fellow at the American Bar Foundation. His research earned him recognition as a Fulbright Scholar and an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow and the Financial Times named him one of the six “gurus of the future.”
“In recent years, the Center for American Progress has done some of the best policy work anywhere,” according to Goolsbee. “I am excited to be able to join them.”
