Washington, D.C. — Today the Center for American Progress announced that Ganesh Sitaraman, former policy director for the Elizabeth Warren for Senate campaign and senior counsel to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), has been named a Senior Fellow at CAP. Within his new role, Sitaraman will focus on areas ranging from economics to national security.
“We are pleased to welcome Ganesh Sitaraman as a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress,” said Carmel Martin, Executive Vice President for Policy at CAP. “Ganesh’s extensive experience in issues pertaining to foreign relations and domestic policy—including his background in national security and financial regulations—makes him a versatile and invaluable addition to our team. As a Senior Fellow, Ganesh will be integral to the advancement of CAP’s work on multiple fronts, helping our organization develop and advocate policies that promote both economic and national security at home and abroad.”
Prior to Warren’s successful Senate bid, Sitaraman served as an advisor to Warren when she was chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. Sitaraman recently returned to his post as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt Law School, where he focuses on issues in public law ranging from foreign relations and international law to domestic regulation and institutional design. Prior to joining Vanderbilt in 2011, Sitaraman was the public law fellow and a lecturer at Harvard Law School, as well as a law clerk for Judge Stephen F. Williams on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Sitaraman has also been a research fellow at the Counterinsurgency Training Center – Afghanistan in Kabul and a visiting fellow at the Center for a New American Security. Author of The Counterinsurgent‘s Constitution: Law in the Age of Small Wars, Sitaraman has provided commentary on foreign and domestic policy in The New York Times, The New Republic, and The Boston Globe.
A Truman Scholar and an Eagle Scout, Sitaraman earned his A.B. in government magna cum laude at Harvard; a master’s degree in political thought and intellectual history from Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was the Lionel de Jersey Harvard scholar; and his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor on the Harvard Law Review. He is a principal of the Truman National Security Project.
