EVENT ADVISORY: Findings From New Survey of Educators of Color To Be Unveiled at Town Hall Hosted by CAP, EduColor

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, July 22, the Center for American Progress and EduColor will host a town hall to unveil the results of a new survey of 2,148 educators of color conducted last month through a partnership with the National Education Association. The event comes weeks before students and educators return to America’s public schools for a new school year, some for the first time since March 2020. The effort is part of CAP and EduColor’s #WeBuildEDU campaign to elevate the voices of educators who are Black, Indigenous, and other non-Black people of color in the national dialogue about what must be done to rebuild the U.S. public education system in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and preexisting inequities. The discussion will focus on topics explored in the survey, including what educators of color believe are the most important lessons to be learned from the pandemic and what must be done to improve schools, make curriculum more inclusive, and better advance racial justice and equity.

“The WeBuildEDU campaign was started with, for, and by educators of color,” said José Vilson, Executive Director at EduColor. “This summit will illuminate so many of the themes and ideas about the impact on these professionals that we’ve known to be true since before the pandemic began, and which became even more urgent during it.”
