Washington, D.C. — For decades, California has been at the forefront of climate action, including a voluntary emissions reduction program as far back as 2001 and landmark clean car standards that have been adopted by states across the country. The Biden administration has taken a bold approach to climate policy in its first 100 days, laying out climate commitments in a Day One executive order and following up with major investments in climate action to create good jobs, deliver on environmental justice, and reduce planet-warming emissions through its proposed American Jobs Plan.
As the administration begins working closely with Congress on further developing and implementing bold climate policies, the federal government can build on successes and learn from challenges experienced by states—including California.
