PRESS CALL ADVISORY: House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, Chair of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, and Faith Leaders To Discuss Public Health Guidance During Upcoming Religious Holidays

Washington, D.C. — While most faith communities are choosing to follow public health guidance during the coronavirus pandemic, some have disregarded recommendations to stay at home. At least a dozen states have made things worse by exempting places of worship from restrictions on public gatherings.

The faith initiative at the Center for American Progress is planning a press call on Wednesday, April 8, to address the importance of staying home and avoiding public gatherings as people celebrate Easter and Passover in the coming days and as Ramadan begins later this month.

Speakers will address the need to disregard President Donald Trump’s earlier comments around reopening for Easter and offer their recommendations for a faithful response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
