EVENT ADVISORY: Former California Gov. Jerry Brown and German Green Party Co-Chair Robert Habeck To Discuss Climate Crisis

Washington, D.C. — Climate change is the greatest challenge facing our country and the world. The devastating Australia bushfires are the most recent demonstration of what’s at stake, both at home and on the global stage. Urgent and decisive political leadership is needed to address this crisis and turn it into an opportunity to rebuild our infrastructure, create millions of well-paying jobs, and address social injustice, such as by a Green New Deal.

The European Union has developed an ambitious agenda at home and is pressing for stronger international action. In the United States, governors, mayors, businesses, universities, activists and communities across the country are leading the way with innovative policies and ideas. On both sides of the Atlantic, political leaders are connecting. We must learn from these leaders, both domestically and internationally, to take action as quickly as possible and build a just and 100 percent clean future.

Please join the Center for American Progress for a forward-looking conversation between two of the most prominent advocates for green economic transformations across the Atlantic. Robert Habeck, co-chair of the German Green Party, and former California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) will discuss the urgency of the climate crisis, the state of climate policy and activism in the United States and Europe, and an agenda for global action for 2020 and beyond.
