ADVISORY: Secretary Vilsack to Address Climate-Smart Agriculture and Forestry at CAP

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, May 12, 2016, the Center for American Progress will host an event with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on the topic of enhancing climate-smart agriculture and forestry in United States. He will deliver keynote remarks, with a panel discussion to follow.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture—as a science-based agency with strong working ties to the agriculture and forestry sectors—occupies a unique position in the nation’s efforts to respond to climate change. The department is creating innovative strategies and platforms to reduce pollution while also assisting efforts to adapt to the intensifying effects of climate change such as drought, wildfires, extreme temperatures, and increased occurrences of pests. Its efforts to reduce emissions through sustainable and measurable practices will help meet national climate commitments, secure the nation’s food supply, and support various agricultural and forestry industries.
