A panel discussion with leading voices at the forefront of the global conversation on food security, featuring findings and recommendations from Food Chain Reaction: A Global Food Security Game
Washington, D.C. — Food Chain Reaction: A Global Food Security Game is an international simulation based in the near future during a global food crisis. In November 2015, 65 thought leaders and policymakers from several countries came together in Washington, D.C., to participate in scenarios based on recent and practically feasible disruptions. Teams of participants represented governments, institutions, and businesses and responded to a global food crisis, caused by population growth, rapid urbanization, extreme weather, and political crises.
Adding climate change to an already volatile mix of disruptions to global food security means more profound and urgent consequences for the global food system. Policies and actions affecting trade, climate, and national security can exacerbate food system pressures and volatility worldwide. Experts will dive into these issues and propose policy recommendations to promote resilience and global food security.
Food Chain Reaction was designed to help high-level decision-makers better understand the interdependencies of food, climate, trade, and political stability and the effects of collective and individual policy decisions.
The event was produced by the World Wildlife Fund and the Center for American Progress, with game design from the CNA Corporation. Funding and technical support was provided by Cargill with major support from Mars Inc.
