ADVISORY: CAP to Host Discussion with NASA Administrator Bolden on Human Space Exploration and a Mission to Mars

Washington, D.C. — Slowly but surely a national consensus is emerging that America’s future human spaceflight goals will include sending astronauts to Mars. A recent NASA report outlines how to reach Mars in phases, starting with testing technologies and conducting research aboard the International Space Station; developing the necessary hardware and procedures in the proving ground around the moon; and culminating in sending astronauts to the red planet.

The Center for American Progress will host a keynote address from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, as well as a discussion regarding the next steps for America’s spaceflight program on its journey to Mars and beyond.
