CAP to Unveil New Report Highlighting Teachers Who Are Driving Common Core Success in School Districts Across the United States
Washington, D.C. — While the Common Core started as a local, collaborative effort, the standards have become a hot topic of debate in political circles—and as a result, the voices of those tasked with the work of implementing the standards have been muffled. On Tuesday, April 28, the Center for American Progress will host American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten for a conversation about a new CAP report that highlights school districts throughout the country that are empowering teachers to lead the way to successful implementation of the Common Core.
The upcoming report, “Teacher Leadership: The Pathway to Common Core Success,” demonstrates how teachers are assuming significant leadership roles and engaging in key decisions about how to implement the standards each day—and in doing so, paving the way to a smooth transition to the Common Core. A panel of experts will also discuss how teacher leadership can drive Common Core success and how districts and unions can work together to accelerate this approach.
