ADVISORY: CAP, SiX to Host State Legislators for Event on an Economic Opportunity Agenda in the States

Washington, D.C. — While Congress remains paralyzed by partisanship and gridlock, state legislatures are moving forward and have the ability to enact initiatives to grow the middle class and improve economic security. On Friday, March 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., the Center for American Progress will partner with a new “action tank,” the State Innovation Exchange, or SiX, to host state legislators from Minnesota, New Jersey, and Texas to address how states are forging ahead to improve economic security by raising the minimum wage, breaking down barriers to employment, extending access to paid sick days, and more.

Too many low- and moderate-income families have yet to see benefits from the growing economy, as stagnant wages and rising costs are leading to unprecedented income inequality. These state legislators and nationally recognized economists will discuss ways that states can address these issues and grow the middle class.
