Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, June 25, the Center for American Progress will host an event to discuss the successes and challenges that states and school districts are facing as they implement the Common Core State Standards. Former Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas (R) and former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D), who both adopted the standards during their time in office, will take part in the panel discussion. CAP Executive Vice President for Policy Carmel Martin and Fordham Institute President Chester E. Finn, Jr., who both previously served as assistant secretaries in the U.S. Department of Education, will also participate in the panel.
At the event, CAP will release a report that highlights Common Core implementation best practices from across the nation and sets forth specific recommendations for how to implement the new standards and assessments effectively.
