CAP Ideas 2019: Mitch Landrieu on Reckoning With America’s Past

Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu speaks at the 2019 CAP Ideas Conference on the importance of a true reckoning with America’s past in order to truly guarantee dignity and opportunity to all.

Part of a Series

This year at the CAP Ideas Conference, Former Mayor of New Orleans Mitch Landrieu (D) spoke about the importance of a collective reckoning with America’s sordid legacy of systemic oppression of marginalized communities that continues to this day and surfaces in the forms of voter suppression, the overincarceration of black and brown bodies, the racial wealth gap, and negative health outcomes. In order to achieve the promise of equal opportunity for all, Americans must have a true understanding of our nation’s history and its vestiges today.
