OKLAHOMA CITY – President Barack Obama today nominated U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert E. Bacharach to serve on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Bacharach received a unanimous approval from the American Bar Association as well as the support of his home state senators in Oklahoma and should be confirmed as quickly as possible, said Oklahomans for a Fair Judiciary.

“Judge Bacharach’s background is outstanding and there is no reason for the Senate to delay in moving his nomination forward,” said Jennifer Able, executive director of Oklahomans for a Fair Judiciary. “The 10th Circuit hears cases on every issue – from justice for the poor, to social security appeals, to basic civil rights protections. The longer the Senate stalls in the process to confirm Judge Bacharach, the longer justice will be denied and fewer Americans will receive their day in court.”

In order for Judge Bacharach’s nomination to move forward, the Senate Judiciary Committee must vote on whether to move the nomination to the Senate floor, for consideration by the full Senate. Once approved by the U.S. Senate, Judge Bacharach will join the 10th Circuit with a lifetime appointment.

Judge Bacharach has an impressive background. He graduated in the top 10 percent of his class from Washington University School of Law in 1985, and was named to the Order of the Coif. He spent two years as a clerk for Judge William J. Holloway, Jr. on the 10th Circuit, and then spent the next 12 years working for the Oklahoma firm of Crowe & Dunlevy, where he specialized in commercial litigation. In 1999, he became a Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma, where he has presided over thousands of civil and criminal cases covering nearly all areas of the law, earning a reputation for dispute resolution.
