401 days: that’s how long it took the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to fail to decide whether to make Plan B – an emergency contraceptive already approved for use by prescription – available over the counter. The agency announced in August it needs to answer new regulatory questions about making Plan B non-prescription, a move some say is a politically motivated stall tactic to appease conservative organizations that oppose greater availability for the drug; these right-wingers claim that Plan B promotes teenage promiscuity.
