When Joe Biden becomes president later this month, he will take the reins of a sharply divided America – that much was made clear from the events unfolding in the nation’s capital and in Pennsylvania’s state legislature this past week.

The election results reflected deep and enduring partisan divisions in the country, with Democrats narrowly gaining control at the national level and Republicans increasing their strength in most states around the country. Even with these sharp divides, a strong majority of Americans want to move beyond this difficult period and make progress in stopping the pandemic and jumpstarting the economy.
