In September, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) published one of the most thorough and definitive looks at the impacts of immigration on the United States. The report makes clear that immigrants are a major driver of economic growth in the United States. Not only do the economic contributions of immigrants expand the size of the economy, but they also bring down the costs of many goods and services; increase entrepreneurship; and ensure that — as the largest generation of Americans, the Baby Boomers, reach retirement age — we have enough workers to fuel America’s growth and prosperity into the future.
