Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush and Foreign Policy Realism

Brian Katulis examines the similarities and differences between President Barack Obama's and President George H.W. Bush's administrations.

President Barack Obama admires the foreign policy realism of President George H.W. Bush and, according to Jeffrey Goldberg’s Atlantic article this week, said “I love that guy” about Mr. Bush’s national security adviser, Brent Scowcroft.

Examine their foreign policy records and you’ll find two big differences and two similarities between the Obama and Bush 41 administrations.
