Terrorists are already in American prisons—and it’s OK

America has a long track record of incarcerating dangerous terrorists—and doing so quite successfully.

When Republicans in Congress explain why they’re so opposed to President Obama’s plan to close the prison at Guantanamo, one threat comes up over and over: It’s far too dangerous to move these terrorists from their island prison onto US soil.

In fact, America has a long track record of incarcerating dangerous terrorists, and the record shows the opposite. U.S. maximum security prisons, notably the Supermax penitentiary in Colorado, have incarcerated some of the most dangerous terrorists the world has ever known. No one—terrorist or any other kind of criminal—has ever escaped from one of these Supermax prisons.
