You’re Hired (to Teach, for the Right Reasons)

Lisette Partelow discusses why the long-term solution to the teacher shortage is systemic change to the teacher pipeline.

Posted on a screen in a Dallas airport near signs for local restaurants and attractions is a simple message to potential teachers, written in boldface font: “WANT TO TEACH? WHEN CAN YOU START?”

No two sentences better sum up the current problems with how we approach the teaching profession in this country. Just as patients deserve well-trained doctors and defendants deserve fair legal representation, students deserve skilled, well-trained teachers, not just anyone who walks by an airport billboard and is willing to give teaching a shot.
