Cut to the Chase

Reducing defense spending will help bring growing, national debt under control and free up funds to fix the United States' crumbling infrastructure, writes Lawrence J. Korb

Congress can and should cut the current level of defense spending by about 15 percent, or a trillion dollars, over the next decade without jeopardizing national security if it acts correctly. Such cuts are possible because, in real terms, defense spending is now higher than at any time since World War II.
