Led by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, this letter urges members of Congress to co-sponsor the Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act. Given existing evidence that school-based law enforcement does not improve school safety and has negative impacts on student outcomes—including by promoting the school-to-prison pipeline—this legislation would prohibit the use of federal funds to support school-based police and would set aside funding for evidence-based and trauma-informed services instead.
