Advancing a Race Equity Education Policy Agenda

A Forum at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference

Walter E. Washington Convention Center
7:00 - 10:00 PM EDT

During the 2019 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, the Center for American Progress and Education Reform Now will host a forum, in collaboration with Rep. Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA), chairman of the House Committee on Labor and Education, to discuss how to keep communities at the center of education policy development and ways to ensure equity for all by building a racially diverse workforce.

The K-12 Education Policy team at CAP has set out a bold agenda supporting a quality education for every child. CAP believes that a new education agenda must be rooted in the idea of opportunity for all, with equity in access at the center. This means developing policies in partnership with everyday people, with a focus on ensuring that these policies benefit students from historically underserved and under-resourced communities, as well as making sure that every child has a quality seat in public schools.

Education Reform Now’s mission is to pursue education policies that enable all students, particularly students from low-income families and students of color, to obtain a globally competitive education that empowers them to fulfill their potential. To achieve this goal, Education Reform Now is building a durable network of progressive champions, allies, and supporters across the advocacy and policymaking arenas to expand what works and change what is broken in the public education system, all while keeping the interests of students and families at the center of this work.

Please join the Center for American Progress, Education Reform Now, and the panelists for a robust, solutions-oriented discussion about equity in education and community engagement.
