The award-winning documentary “Councilwoman” chronicles the jampacked days, nights, and weekends of Carmen Castillo, a full-time hotel housekeeper and Dominican immigrant in Rhode Island who is also serving her second term on the Providence City Council. As she juggles hard work, the challenges of home life, and a part-time career in politics, her story gives new meaning to the idea of “doing it all” and raises serious questions about the barriers that remain to the political empowerment of working people.
Please join the Center for American Progress’ Reel Progress program, the Women Donors Network’s Reflective Democracy Campaign, UNITE HERE, and the CrossCurrents Foundation for a screening of “Councilwoman” at Landmark’s E Street Cinema on July 17 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The screening will be followed by a short panel discussion.
