Widespread discriminatory and unethical lending was a major contributor to the collapse of the U.S. housing market and the subsequent loss of more than four million homes to foreclosure. In this forum, our panelists will explore the current state of housing discrimination, segregation, and integration in the United States. Topics to be covered include HUD’s proposed Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule; the possible effects of HUD’s new disparate-impact rule on patters of segregation; the possibility of tension between the CFPB’s new Qualified Mortgage rule and fair lending; and the next steps for promoting housing markets that are free of discrimination.
