A Reflection on Faith and Politics with Joshua DuBois and Tom Perriello

12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT

Every morning Joshua DuBois sent his boss, President Barack Obama, a devotional email to provide encouragement, inspiration and wisdom. DuBois, then director of the White House Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, became an informal spiritual advisor to the President through these daily devotionals. In remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast last spring, Obama said that the devotionals “meant the world to me.”

DuBois has compiled the best of his devotionals – scripture, poetry, literature, essays, popular culture, and prayers – into a new book, The President’s Devotional, that sheds light on the values that inspired the president and the challenges he faced.

Tom Perriello is President and CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund and a former Congressman from Virginia’s 5th District. A progressive Catholic and international human rights leader, Perriello has a keen understanding of the relationship between politics and faith and helped to launch several faith-based organizations dedicated to issues of poverty and inequality, environmental stewardship, and human dignity.

Please join Joshua DuBois and Tom Perriello for a frank and lively conversation about the role of faith in the president’s life and the space for prophetic voices in today’s political world.

Copies of The President’s Devotional will be available for purchase at the event.
