Climate “Champions of Change” Reception

Featured speaker: Susan Ruffo, Deputy Director for Climate Change Adaptation at the White House Council for Environmental Quality

Introduction by: Daniel J. Weiss, Senior Fellow and Director of Climate Strategy, Center for American Progress

The White House Champions of Change program highlights the stories and examples of citizens across the country who are “Winning the Future” with projects and initiatives that move their communities forward on climate resiliency. On April 11, the White House will welcome citizen, business, and community leaders who are working to prepare their cities and towns for climate change, recognizing them as “champions of change.” In the last two years alone the United States experienced 25 extreme weather events that caused $188 billion in damages. These leaders are finding new and innovative ways to protect their communities from sea level rise, surging storms, extreme drought and other climate-related impacts.

We would like to welcome to you to a reception for the champion honorees at the Center for American Progress on the evening of Thursday, April 11, 2013, beginning at 5:00pm. This event is an opportunity for members of the environmental community to engage with leaders from across the country who are working towards reducing the costly effects of climate-related extreme weather.
