The Lack of Diversity on Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill staff are sorely lacking in diversity, writes Daniella Gibbs Leger in Politico.

This week the National Journal released a new study on the make-up of top Hill staffers. There were many surprising stats in there, for example, I find it interesting that most Democratic staffers live in D.C., but Republicans live in Virginia. But the one that jumped out at me in a bad way was the diversity…or should I say lack thereof. How on earth is it possible in a country as diverse as ours, that only 7 percent of senior Hill staff are people of color? And lest you think one party is better than the other, BOTH parties are doing a terrible job of having a senior staff that even closely mirrors the diversity in this country.
