The data released today by the Center for American Progress vividly illustrates that President Bush is not fulfilling his promise to Leave No Child Behind. The president, by underfunding his signature educational program, has left thousands of children in school districts around the country with fewer resources this year than they had last year.
The president's budget contained $9.4 billion less than levels than he agreed to when he signed the No Child Left Behind Act. The president also eliminates funding for 38 existing education programs and level funds critical programs such as those supporting after-school care and teacher quality initiatives. Ensuring every child has a quality education requires more than just rhetoric – it requires a financial commitment.
