Every day, gay and transgender Americans continue to face high rates of discrimination and harassment in the workplace. And every day, gay and transgender Americans go to work lacking full employment protections under the law that would shield them from such senseless and unfair treatment. Rather than be judged on the quality of their work, far too many workers are being judged on their sexual orientation or gender identity, characteristics that have nothing to do with job performance.
By and large, Americans support equality in the workplace for all individuals, gay or straight, transgender or not. But a significant number of Americans erroneously believe that gay and transgender workers already have full legal protections on the job. Other Americans remain unaware of the high rates of discrimination and harassment facing the gay and transgender workforce. How well informed are you?
